On June 29, 2016, the “Symposium on Responsible Netizenship” was held at the Mother Ignacia Gymnasium which started at exactly 9:00 in the morning.
The central focus of the activity is to provide an avenue for the student to engage in the community safety and responsibly. Thus, this activity is specifically designed to inform and orient the CKC College community of proper etiquette in using social media. This is the objective of the said activity.
The emcees who are Mr. Khris Danielle F. Jalog and Kate Jazz Omahoy call Mr. Jomar Llevado, BSIT Program Head for his opening remarks. Then the emcees read the educational and work attainment of the guest speaker, after the introduction they now call Mr. Renel Jay A. Quirit, MIT, DepEd IT Officer for the part one of the symposium.
“What is Netiquette?” Mr. Quirit asked to the students then he proceeds to the other slide of the presentation and said “Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online.” Then he said “They won’t answer all your Netiquette questions. But they should give you some basic principles to use in solving your own Netiquette dilemmas.” Rule 1: Remember the human. Rule 2: Behave like real life. Rule 3: Know where you are in the cyberspace. Rule 4: Respect other people’s time and bandwidth. Rule 5: make yourself look good online. Rule 6: Share ideas or share expert knowledge. Rule 7: Control your anger/Help keeps wars under control. Rule 8: Respect privacy/Respect other people’s privacy. Rule 9: Do not abuse your power. Rule 10: Be forgiving. With the help of this core rules of being a responsible netizens then things will be just fine and nothing’s going to go wrong or there is no one that will be hurt.
At the second part of the symposium Mr. Quirit talks about the Consequences and the R.A. 10175 which is also known as “Cybercrime Law”. He also included some of the crimes commented by netizens those are illegal access, illegal interception, data interference, system interference, misuse of devices, and so many more. At the end of his talk, he said that “Face your problems, don’t facebook.”
After the talk Mr. Quirit has been given a certificate of appreciation for sharing his knowledge to the students, then followed by the closing remark by Mr. Gerardo Mandam, PSITS President then lastly the closing prayer led by Ms. Justine Joy Botero – PSITS Vice President – Spiritual.
